JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – New and returning poll managers and workers started training for the upcoming presidential election in downtown Jackson.

The Hinds County Election Commission will take the workers through an extensive course on how to work, operate machinery and maintain precincts.

The November 5 election is expected to have high voter turnout, and election officials want to make sure poll workers are prepared.

“We are making sure there are enough areas for people to sit down and fill out their ballots, and we’re going to make sure they’re in the proper location. And also, we would just like to encourage everybody to check your polling precinct before you go to the polls. Like, start checking now because you need to know that early. And also, if you’re not registered, we encourage you to register to vote,” said Shirley Varnado, Hinds County Election Commissioner, District 5.

The Hinds County Election Commission launched a strategic plan to ensure the problems that occurred during the 2023 elections don’t happen again.
