    Hattiesburg auto burglary suspect arrested after chase

    HATTIESBURG, Miss. ( WHLT ) – Hattiesburg police arrested an auto burglary suspect after a chase.

    Police responded to the 900 block of North 30th Avenue around 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4 in reference to an auto burglary in progress.

    The victim told officers that they saw a man inside the driver-side door of their vehicle and told him to get off of the property. They said the suspect fled as the owner contacted police.

    One killed in Covington County crash

    Officers searched the area and spotted the suspect. They said the suspect, 23-year-old D’Anthony Sledge, of Hattiesburg, ran away and went through several residential backyards. He was later arrested in the 1200 block of North 32nd Avenue.

    During the time of arrest, police said they recovered a firearm that had been reported stolen from a recent auto burglary incident in Hattiesburg.

    Sledge was charged with two counts of auto burglary and one count of possession of a stolen weapon and booked into Forrest County Jail.
