    Velvet buck season begins September 13 in Mississippi

    JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Velvet buck season will begin on September 13, 2024, in Mississippi.

    On August 1, permits for the season were made available to purchase anywhere hunters can purchase a hunting and fishing license.

    This year’s season will be held from September 13-15 on private lands, authorized state and federal lands and specified Wildlife Management Areas.

    Five Mississippi men cited for alligator hunting violations in Louisiana

    Only one legal buck for the respective Deer Management Unit may be harvested. Find your Deer Management Unit here .

    Additional Rules to note:

    • Bag Limit – The bag limit is one (1) legal buck, and this buck will count towards your annual antlered deer bag limit.
    • Mandatory Harvest Reporting – Hunters (including license exempt hunters) must report their harvest by 10:00 p.m. the day of harvest. Hunters can report via the MDWFP Smartphone App or MDWFP web portal.
    • Mandatory CWD Sampling – All harvested bucks must be submitted for CWD sampling to a MDWFP CWD Drop-off freezer or to an MDWFP participating taxidermist within 5 days of harvest.

    I never understood the reason why people hunt deer when they have to throw away Meat they didn't eat the year before.What a waste. maybe it makes them feel like a big man.. I Hunt only when it is necessary to feed my family 😎.NOT JUST FOR TROPHIES.....

    Well we better drive our country roads very very cautiously. Them deer gonna be running wild all over the state running in front of cars causing sever damage and death to drivers. I'm tired of hitting crazy scared deer on our highways. I average hitting 3 every winter. SICK OF IT
