Florida football star collapses and dies during game

BRISTOL, Fla. (WMBB) – The Port St. Joe community is in mourning as high school senior, Chance Gainer collapsed and died during a game at Liberty County High School Friday night.

The star football player suddenly collapsed and his coaches rushed to his aid on the field. Gainer was rushed to a hospital in Blountstown and that is where he was pronounced dead.

The game was immediately stopped, and Port St. Joe’s game with Blountstown next week had already been postponed.

Gulf County Superintendent Jim Norton said that the community is in shambles as they are mourning the loss of “One of the best young men ever to walk the halls at Port St. Joe High School.”

News 13 will be at Port St. Joe High School on Saturday afternoon to speak with Superintendent Norton and to gather more details on the tragedy.
