    Ole Miss vice chancellor faces animal cruelty charges

    OXFORD, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Lafayette County deputies announced the Vice Chancellor for Students Affairs at the University of Mississippi has been indicted on felony charges of animal cruelty.

    The Oxford Eagle reported Charlotte Fant Pegues was indicted by the Lafayette County grand jury on 10 counts of animal cruelty.

    According to deputies, Fant Pegues turned herself into the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, September 9. She was released on a $75,000 bond.

    This comes after her husband, Terry Pegues, was previously arrested in August 2024 and charged with 10 counts of animal cruelty. His bond was also set at $75,000.

    Investigators said numerous malnourished and dead dogs were allegedly found on Pegues’ property. Investigators conducted a search warrant on the residence. In total, 20 animals were rescued and taken to a local veterinarian for care, and 10 animals were found dead.

    Officials with the University of Mississippi said Fant Pegues has been placed on leave.

    If you can bail yourself out for $75,000 you could have feed those animals or at least give them away. Why would you starve animals. Just awful!!
