Mississippi roads closed due to flash flooding from Francine

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Francine continues to weaken as the storm moves across Mississippi on Thursday, but the storm has still caused flash flooding in the Jackson-metro area.
In Jackson, there was flooding on Mill Street at Monument Street.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) reported U.S. 80 at Gulde Road in Rankin County was closed due to flooding. The highway reopened just before 9:00 a.m.
According to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, there is flooding on Williams Road near Levy Lane and the North Road. They reported water covering the roads on in the 100 block of Highway 481, Holly Bush Road, the 500 block of Red Oak Road and Will Stutley Drive.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office also reported power lines are down on Bradshaw Road and Springwater Ranch Road near Rose Hill Road.

The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office reported there was flooding on Highway 3 and Highway 49 headed towards Eden.
If travel is necessary, MDOT offers the following tips:
Never drive through a flooded area; the water may carry your vehicle or cause it to stall. Remember the phrase: “Turn around. Don’t drown.”
Do not use cruise control when the roads are wet. The distance it takes to stop increases in these conditions.
If you are in your vehicle during a tornado, seek sturdy shelter or the lowest part of the ground such as a ditch. Never seek shelter under highway overpasses.
Use your headlights whenever conditions require the use of windshield wipers.
MDOT’s emergency operation centers have been activated in the southern portion of the state, and a large number of MDOT workers are positioned to respond and clear roadways impacted as soon as it is safe to do so. Drivers are reminded to be on high alert for roadside workers.
