Six candidates qualify for Ward 2 special election in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Six candidates have qualified for the special election to fill Jackson’s Ward 2 City Council seat.

The following candidates have qualified as of September 9, 2024:

Catherine Robinson
Marcus Cheatham
Celestial M. Gordon-Griffin
Brian Mozee
Montyne (Tina) Clay
Cheryl Matory

Former Councilwoman Angelique Lee resigned in August before she pled guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery in federal court.

The Jackson City Council voted on Monday, August 19 to set the special election for Tuesday, October 1. If necessary, a runoff election will be held on October 22.
