JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – The City of Jackson expects to see an economic boost from Saturday’s Jackson State game against Southern.

The action-packed weekend consists of the game at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium and the Mississippi Book Festival.

The Vet is expected to be packed on Saturday, and there will be tailgate parties outside the stadium. Officials with Visit Jackson said hotels are sold out, and they expect many people to check out the local restaurants.

“As I was coming in to work, I already saw some RVs with Southern flags. So, they’re coming, and it’s going to be about right at $6 million of estimated economic impact. You know, the fans are going to come out, and we’re going to have a really good time this weekend,” said Yolanda Clay-Moore, director of Communications at Visit Jackson.

Visit Jackson and the Hank Aaron Sports Academy will partner again to provide gameday parking and shuttle service for the JSU vs. Southern game.

The shuttle service will drop off & pick up on the West Street side of the stadium grounds near the ticketing area (signage will be in the area).

A $25 parking fee is required to access the free roundtrip shuttle service from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., departing to and from Smith-Wills Stadium, located at 1200 Lakeland Drive. Debit and credit cards will only be accepted.

The game will kickoff at 6:00 p.m., and gates will open at 4:00 p.m.
