JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Jackson police are investigating four homicides that occurred this weekend.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said the first homicide occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13. Officers responded to the 100 block of Woody Drive and found Randy Brown deceased at the location. Police said the suspects were in a brown SUV.

“The 83rd homicide was that of Jane Morgan, 17 years of age, Black male. He was shot in the 4100 block of Watkins Drive in Northeast Jackson. I’m sorry, Northwest Jackson during a carjacking. His vehicle was taken was a gray Honda Accord with a black bumper. He was approached by some masked individuals who demanded his vehicle and subsequently shot him multiple times,” Wade said.

According to the police chief, officers arrested a suspect in connection to the second weekend homicide.

In efforts to curb crime, Wade said the Jackson Police Department (JPD) will have a Citizen Police Academy, Clergy Police Academy and a Crime Summit focusing on how to move forward.

“We’ve got to show these young men there’s a better way besides gangs and drugs. There’s a better way because high school will only last so long. They’ve got to move into the real world. And the real world is not about who can shoot a neighborhood or kill some innocent person, a baby, a child or a grandmother,” Wade said.

Anyone with information about the homicides can contact JPD at 601-960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
