    71-year-old Jackson man found guilty in wife’s death

    JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – A 71-year-old habitual offender was convicted of manslaughter in the death of his wife in Jackson.

    Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens said Robert Lumpkin was also convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

    Jackson police said Lumpkin shot his wife, Laura Lumpkin, at a home on Barbara Avenue on August 19, 2022. Officers said Lumpkin exited the home with his hands held up in the air. He had shot his wife in the neck while inside the home. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

    According to Owens, Lumpkin faces a 20-year mandatory sentence for his manslaughter conviction and a 10-year mandatory sentence for being a convicted felon in possession of
    firearm.
