    Capitol police capture man who escaped from patrol car

    HINDS COUNTY, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Capitol police said a man was captured after he escaped while being transported to the Hinds County Detention Center.

    Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said the incident occurred at an intersection on Highway 18 on Monday, September 23. When the officer approached the intersection, Martin said Michael Fields, 32, managed to escape the vehicle.

    Additional officers responded to the scene, and Fields was taken back into custody.

    Fields is being charged with loss of a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, foreign warrants from the Clinton Police Department and the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, and escape.
