BRANDON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – This year, Brandon Methodist Kindergarten created their first ever caterpillar rock garden.

“They’ll stand right here, look over the fence and look for their rocks,” said teacher Audrey Noble.

The colorful rocks feature the Hulk, the Minions, and a tribute to a breast cancer survivor.

“We have a breast cancer survivor as a teacher. She wanted to make sure she put her pink ribbon,” said teacher Dee Dee Stowers.

Director Julie Parker came up with the fun idea. Together, the school’s 75 kids, seven teachers, including Brandon First Methodist Church, all pitched in.

“It took a long time,” said Conley, who painted the sun on his rock.

“This one is pretty,” said Vivi, holding up a rock with a lovely flower painted on it.

These little rocks are leaving a lasting impact for teachers, such as Stowers.

“When our children leave for the year, they take a little piece of our heart. This time, we get to have a little of theirs left with us,” she said.

Conley and his classmates had a blast putting their own personal touches to their very own rocks.

“If we turn it over and check a name, it might be a friend that’s outgrown the program,” said Stowers.

Audrey Noble has come full circle. She attended Brandon Methodist Kindergarten, her daughter did as well and now she’s a teacher at BMK.

“Every day we come out, they’re still excited to see their rocks,” she said.

Parker said she would love to continue growing their caterpillar rock garden.
