JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – South Jackson residents called on city leaders to step in after a downed traffic light caused problems for drivers.

The problem occurred late Sunday morning when a vehicle struck a pole and damaged the traffic light. It’s located at the intersection of Suncrest Drive and McDowell Road.

Residents want the city to fix the traffic light quickly. They said it’s an eyesore and a safety hazard.

“It’s sad. It’s dangerous. We got people come through these people’s businesses like a racetrack,” said Hardwell Paymon, who lives in South Jackson.

WJTV 12 News reached out to the city. They said a contractor will repair the pole, but there is no date on when the repair will be complete.
