    Yazoo City school bus driver charged after hitting vehicle, injuring child

    YAZOO COUNTY, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Yazoo City police said a school bus driver was arrested after she allegedly hit a vehicle and injured a child.

    The incident occurred on Locust Street on Friday, October 4.

    Yazoo City Police Chief Terry Gann said the child opened the back door of a vehicle when the bus pulled off after dropping some students off at the location. He said the bus hit the vehicle’s door and injured the child’s hand.

    Gann said the bus was later found and stopped. The driver, Cathy Donald, was taken to get a drug and alcohol test. She was arrested and charged with felony hit and run.

    According to Gann, Donald knew that she hit the vehicle and still drove away from the scene. She was later released by the judge on her on recognizance.

    Donald is a bus driver for the Mississippi Achievement School District. WJTV 12 News reached out to the school district for a statement.

    As you are aware, there was a bus incident in Yazoo City involving a student on Friday, October 4, 2024 at approximately 3:55 p.m. Unfortunately, we cannot release details regarding any student or employee. This matter is currently under investigation by the school district and the local police.
