JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba confirmed on Monday that he will run for reelection in 2025.

The mayor cited achievements under his administration, including saving the Jackson Public School District (DPS) and receiving $800 million to save the city’s water system.

Lumumba said he’s been in talks with the Department of Justice on the city’s water system. JXN Water is run by interim third-party manager Ted Henifin. Lumumba wants to create an operations board and a community advisory board to address issues with JXN Water.

“Ted and JXN Water has, from the agreed stipulated order, have responsibilities in their communication with the City of Jackson that are not being sufficiently met. So, we certainly would welcome them to the table. I am always willing to talk to Ted, if Ted were available today,” the mayor said.

Henifin is set to oversee JXN Water until September 2027.
