TAMPA, Fla. ( WFLA ) — As Florida’s Gulf Coast braces for the impacts of Hurricane Milton Wednesday, the storm is causing severe weather across the state, even in Miami.

The National Weather Service Miami shared photos of a tornado crossing Interstate 75 Wednesday as cars were still driving on the highway.

“TORNADO crossing I-75 as we speak! Seek shelter NOW!” the agency wrote on social media .

Miami and much of South Florida are not in the direct line of Hurricane Milton but could still face severe weather, like Wednesday’s tornado.

Parts of the Tampa Bay area, which is in Milton’s path , are under tornado watches until Wednesday night.

Hurricane Milton is set to make landfall somewhere along the Florida Gulf Coast as a “dangerous major hurricane” around 2 a.m. Thursday, the National Hurricane Center said.

As of Wednesday morning, the Category 4 hurricane is currently moving toward the northeast at 16 mph with winds of 155 mph.
