    Ole Miss ranks No. 24 in preseason men’s basketball

    OXFORD, Miss. ( WJTV ) – The Associated Press unveiled their preseason college basketball poll on Monday, ranking Ole Miss No. 24 in the nation to begin the 2024-25 season.

    Head coach Chris Beard’s team boasts a strong combination of returners, transfers, and first-year players. The roster leads the SEC and ranks fourth among power-five programs in returning minutes per game, with 10 seniors on the team. Five players own more than 1,000 career points, with seven having scored more than 900.

    This marks just the second time in program history Ole Miss earned a preseason ranking from the AP, with the other coming at the start of the 1997-98 season when the Rebels peaked at No. 10 in the nation and earned a birth to the NCAA Tournament.

    The Rebels will host Illinois for a charity exhibition on Sunday, October 27 at 11:00 a.m. in the SJB Pavilion, before tipping off the regular season on Monday, November 4 against Long Island at 7:30 p.m.
