    Jones County man accused of striking deputy’s patrol car

    JONES COUNTY, Miss. ( WHLT ) – A Jones County man faces multiple charges after he allegedly hit a deputy’s patrol cruiser.

    According to investigators, a narcotics agent and deputies pulled into the Magnolia Motel on Highway 11 North on Friday, October 18. They were looking for the suspect of a felony warrant.

    Authorities said Gerrian McGilberry, 50, fled the scene in a yellow 2014 Kia Soul with a female passenger. They said McGilberry struck a patrol cruiser with his vehicle and fled the scene. The deputy was not injured.

    Deputies said McGilberry abandoned his disabled vehicle on East 15th Street in Laurel and ran into an apartment complex. He was captured by deputies. According to investigators, the female passenger reportedly tried several times to get McGilberry to stop his vehicle. She was not injured.

    McGilberry has been charged with felony fleeing in a motor vehicle, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, DUI other (drugs), reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance, seat belt violation, and no drivers license.

    McGilberry is being held at the Jones County Adult Detention Facility. His bond was set at $100,000 on the aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer charge, as well as an additional $15,000 bond for felony fleeing and a $5,000 bond for possession of a controlled substance.
