    Oxford woman found guilty in shooting death of boyfriend

    OXFORD, Miss. ( WJTV ) – An Oxford woman was found guilty in connection to the shooting death of her boyfriend in June 2022.

    The Oxford Eagle reported a jury found Alexandria Griste , 31, guilty of imperfect self-defense manslaughter on Friday, October 18.

    Prosecutors said Griste had been dating Cory Lyles, 29, for about a year and were living together at the time of the shooting. They said the couple had a troubled relationship and were seen arguing at a softball game the day before the shooting.

    Oxford police said the shooting happened on June 8, 2022, just after midnight on South Lamar Boulevard. Lyles died at the scene. Griste was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

    Griste’s defense attorney said his client was acting in self-defense. She faces up to 20 years in prison and is expected to be sentenced on Tuesday, October 22.
