(WJW) – Showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to develop Thursday afternoon as tropical air and moisture spill into Northeast Ohio from Tropical Storm Debby.

Tropical Storm Debby strengthened into a hurricane as it approached the northeastern Gulf Coast of Florida on Sunday night, according to the National Hurricane Center . The hurricane was downgraded to a tropical storm Monday after making landfall at Steinhatchee, located in the Big Bend region of Florida.

New estimates: Here’s when power could come back

According to Fox 8 Meteorologist Jenn Harcher, the outer remnants of the storm system are expected to clip parts of our area Thursday afternoon through Friday morning.

This comes after severe weather and tornadoes ripped through our area on Tuesday, causing days-long power outages and storm damage.

Communities east of Interstate 71 do have a greater chance of rain in the next 12 to 24 hours.

Heavy rain is possible with a slow-moving system like this, according to Harcher. This could cause localized flooding but no severe storms are expected.

“Stay tuned. Fair weather returns Friday with a clear sky and comfortable conditions by the evening,” Harcher said.
