Where shelf-stable meals are being distributed in Northeast Ohio

CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Greater Cleveland Food Bank and partner agencies are working hard to make sure residents don’t go hungry after this week’s storms caused widespread power outages for residents across Northeast Ohio.

According to the food bank, more than 1,000 shelf-stable meals have already been handed out to residents at resource centers in the city and volunteers are preparing more.

On Saturday morning, the food bank will start packing 2,000 shelf-stable grocery boxes to be distributed at partner programs in the area.

The food bank has compiled a list of distribution sites and pantries that will be open this weekend and beyond to help residents after the storms:

The food bank said a $100,000 grant from the FirstEnergy Foundation is making it possible to help residents impacted by the storms.

As of Friday evening, there are still more than 154,000 FirstEnergy customers without power in Ohio. Cuyahoga County has been hit the hardest, with 110,000 customers still in the dark. Most power is expected to be restored by Wednesday night.

On Friday evening, Cleveland Public Power confirmed that power had been restored to more than 28,000 customers with fewer than 5,700 to go. The utility company expects most customers to have power by this weekend.
