FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (WJW) — Some are still holding onto hope for answers about a 47-year-old cold case.

“Whenever I look at her photo, she’s perpetually 17. She hasn’t aged from the day she went missing,” Fairview Park Police Chief Paul Shepard said.

Yvonne Regler would be 64 years old now, but August 8, 1977, was the last time she was ever seen.

Regler worked that day as a clerk at a gas station on Lorain Avenue in Fairview Park. When her next shift came, she was gone.

“She spent the whole day on the phone taking care of customers. (At) about noon, the folks brought her some food and (at) about 1:30, people showed up and the store was vacant. Her relieve showed up at around 2:30 and her personal belongings were left behind,” Shepard said.

Forty-seven years ago there was no DNA to collect and examine, or security cameras on every block, but detectives did everything thing they could to find this missing teen.

But, they still haven’t given up trying to find out what happened to Yvonne Regler.

“Every tip we get we follow up. We’ve used our federal partners, we’ve used our local partners. Whatever we can do if something is brought in, we follow up,” Shepard said.

Chief Shepard said over the years, dozens of detectives have worked on this case and have followed up hundreds of pieces of information all over the country.

Regler still has family who have had to live with not knowing what happened to her for all these years. And, if she’s still alive somewhere or if she was killed, mysteries are meant to be solved.

“There are still people alive today who remember this case and might have information so anything that somebody said right before they passed, or, ‘Hey, my uncle mentioned something about this case or had information.’ Anything. It’s not too crazy or too small, we’ll follow up on it,’ Shepard said.
