( WDTN ) — Many different food recalls have made their way into circulation in recent weeks, some on a large scale and even one deadly.

The CDC has reported over 400 cases of salmonella in 31 states, linked to cucumbers from the Thomas Produce Company. Those cucumbers have been recalled .

Perdue Foods recalled more than 165,000 pounds of frozen breaded chicken nuggets and tenders. The company says they contained a “foreign substance.”

Boar’s Head has recalled 7 million pounds of deli meat due to a Listeria outbreak. At least 43 people were infected, and three people have died.

On the Food and Drug Administration’s website, a total of 740 types of food and drinks have been issued a recall. Concerns are growing as more items continue to get flagged.

“I keep wondering what is happening, why our food isn’t safe. But I have not personally suffered from them. I guess I am lucky,” said Beth Kolotkin, Germantown resident.

With grocery prices continuing to soar, some residents are concerned that the expensive items they buy will damage more than their wallets.

“Most of it is produce chicken, that’s an expensive thing,” said Kolotkin.

The large number of recalls could be traced back to multiple companies that have a variety of brands under their roof.

“You get production operations that are generally larger. And can effect a greater span of the food products that we eat,” said Chris Cook, Clark County health commissioner.

Cook says with these large companies, if one health hazard is detected, it could impact many different products.

He also states that the advancement of technology has made these checks more seamless, causing more alerts to be issued even if a small issue is detected.

“That goes for those that both regulate and companies that are invested in making safe food as well. I think that is why we are seeing more evidence. When you look for more, you find more,” said Cook.

These food recalls could also affect those with underlying conditions more seriously.

“There are a lot of folks that have had chronic G.I issues, this might be something that hits them, that we have to be cognizant of. Typically we are going to think of diabetes and consistent heart failure and COPD,” said Dr. Joseph Allen, Premier Health regional medical director.

If you do consume recalled foods, make sure to take note of any symptoms.

“You’ll get fevers chills, flu-like symptoms, but it’s generally G.I. So nausea, vomiting, loose stool, those types of things,” said Allen.
