    Akron police investigate 2 robberies related to Facebook Marketplace

    AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – Akron police are investigating two separate Facebook Marketplace robberies that happened Tuesday.

    According to a press release from the Akron Police Department , the first robbery happened when a 24-year-old victim arranged to meet and sell his ATV on the 1200 block of Wilber Avenue.

    The victim met the would-be “buyers” around 2:30 p.m. That is when one of the three suspects pulled out a handgun and took the ATV.

    The other suspects fled on foot, according to the release.

    About 15 minutes after the robbery, officers found one of the suspects, a 17-year-old boy, riding the stolen ATV in the 1000 block of Ackley Street.

    According to the release, the suspect was arrested and charged with robbery and receiving stolen property. He was then taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Facility.

    Detectives are still working to identify the other two suspects.

    In the second robbery, a 27-year-old man met a “seller” on the 800 block of Vernon Odom Blvd. just before 8 p.m. to buy a PlayStation 5.

    According to the release, the victim told police he used Cash App to transport money to the “seller.” Instead of a PlayStation, the seller pulled out a handgun and ordered the victim to leave.

    The victim then left the scene and met with police at another location.

    Police are still working to identify the suspect in this case.
