NORWALK , Ohio (WJW) — Huron County Humane Society workers rescued 20 dogs and three cats from “filthy, inhumane conditions” in an Attica home, according to a news release.

Humane investigators executed a search warrant at the home on Aug. 23, following up on a complaint from a citizen, according to the release.

The humane society took custody of the dogs, grooming them and providing medical treatment, according to the release.

“Preventing animal cruelty and seeking justice for abused animals is critically important,” Amanda Fearing, the society’s medical director, is quoted in the release. “Because of support from our community, we are able to remove animals from inhumane conditions, care for their needs and ultimately send them to loving homes.”

An upcoming hearing will determine where the dogs will be housed while the criminal case moves through court, according to the release.

The society is funded entirely by donations. With 23 new animals under its care, it’s now in need of additional help. To donate money or supplies like cat and dog food, cat litter and anti-flea medications, visit the shelter at 246 Woodlawn Ave., Norwalk, or visit its website .
