Police: Teens caught with guns in Akron were heard planning shooting

AKRON , Ohio (WJW) — A group of juveniles and young adults allegedly overheard planning a shooting were later arrested by police. Some were caught with handguns and an AR-style pistol.

Akron police and members of the Anti-Violence Bureau just after 11 a.m. on Monday responded to the 700 block of South Arlington Street, after the juveniles reportedly made threats and were overheard planning a shooting, according to a news release.

Two teens ran from police but were quickly caught: a 17-year-old boy who ditched a firearm while fleeing, which was later found; and an 18-year-old boy who had an AR-style pistol in his backpack, according to the release.

They were both charged with carrying concealed weapons and obstructing official business, among other charges, and transported to the juvenile detention facility.

Officers also arrested a 21-year-old man on the same charges, in connection with the incident, and transported him to the Summit County jail.

Police also arrested seven other males, ages 15 to 22, on obstruction charges. They may face additional charges now under investigation.

Officers recovered three handguns, an AR-style pistol and an Airsoft BB gun.
