Motorcyclist killed in Akron crash near high school: Police

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – Akron police are investigating after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash near North High School on Friday afternoon.

The crash happened at about 3:20 p.m. on East Tallmadge Avenue.

According to Akron police, a preliminary investigation revealed a Volkswagen SUV was turning into the high school parking lot after the traffic light had turned green when a Yamaha motorcycle collided with it.

The motorcyclist, a 23-year-old man, was taken to Summa Health Akron City Hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

His name hasn’t been released.

The SUV driver, a 41-year-old woman, wasn’t hurt.

Akron police believe speed was a factor in the crash. Alcohol wasn’t involved, investigators said.
