New video: Officers investigate after 7-year-old killed in Cleveland hit-and-run

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Video released to the FOX 8 I-Team takes you inside the investigation after the deadly hit-and-run of a child .

The suspect has now been charged in the death of 7-year-old Amir Prewitt.

New Cleveland police body camera video shows officers finding key evidence.

Last month, on the city’s northeast side, police say a driver hit the child, turned around, then left the scene.

In the video just released, you see police starting to question people, gather evidence and put police tape around the crime scene.

Later, other video shows police finding the SUV involved, but when officers looked, they found no one inside the vehicle.

It took several days for Cleveland police and U.S. Marshals to track down the suspect. One reason for that, witnesses didn’t get a great look at the vehicle involved when the crash happened.

On the police video, you hear one woman say, “that’s my son.”

Then, you hear another voice say, “it’s a black Mercedes truck.”

“It’s a black Mercedes truck that hit him and kept going,” the first woman echoed.

“Did anybody get any plate info?” an officer asked.

“It all happened so fast,” a person at the scene answered.

Donald Mynatt has now been charged. He has been scheduled to appear in Cleveland Municipal Court Friday morning.

The I-Team revealed earlier that Mynatt has a suspended license, and at the time of the hit and run, he had another warrant out for his arrest in another case.

Police initially filed a charge in this case for leaving the scene of an accident. More charges will likely be filed as the case goes to a county grand jury.
