(WJW) – Law enforcement will be looking for impaired drivers in Northeast Ohio tonight.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has revealed planned OVI checkpoints for Richland and Ashtabula counties for Saturday, Sept 7.

Mega Millions ticket hits $2 million in NE Ohio

According to officials, last year in Ohio, there were more 11,000 OVI-related crashes that resulted in 725 people being killed.

OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways,” said Lieutenant Jason Murfield in a press release.

Here’s what we know about the scheduled checkpoints:

    Ashtabula County

Specific details have not yet been released.

    Richland County

The OVI checkpoint will take place in partnership with the Mansfield Police Department from 8
p.m. until 10 p.m. on North Trimble Road, near Wyandotte Avenue, in Mansfield.

How long until clocks ‘fall back?’

Officials warn motorists they can also expect nearby saturation patrols.

In 1990, the Supreme Court upheld the use of sobriety checkpoints as long as they meet certain guidelines, which includes public notification.

“If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a sober driver or make other travel arrangements before your drink,” read a release. “Don’t let another life me lost to the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.”

I don't think they should announce these! You are an adult (hopefully) and know the law! If you are stupid enough to break it, then you should be OK with Any & All consequences. What happened to being accountable for your actions?!
    Yet I said it
