Football game canceled after shooting outside local high school

CLEVELAND (WJW) – The Cleveland Division of Police is investigating a shooting that led to a local football game being canceled.

According to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, shots were fired near John Adams College & Career Academy on Friday afternoon at dismissal.

CMSD reports the game scheduled for later that evening was canceled out of an abundance of caution.

No one was hurt, according to CMSD. They say a suspect was identified.

“As of this morning, an additional layer of security has been provided by the Cleveland Police Department in collaboration with the CMSD Safety and Security team,” the district told FOX 8 Monday.

The district said students and parents can expect to see additional security at John Adams this week.

John Adams was set to play against Woodmore High School on Friday night.

According to Woodmore administrators, the shooting took place just as their students were arriving for the game.

The students were immediately transported back to their district, according to Woodmore.

There is no word yet on whether the game will be rescheduled.

Cleveland police have not said if they have made any arrests.
