Man arrested in connection to death of 12-year-old in Northeast Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WJW) — A man wanted in connection to the death of a 12-year-old in Youngstown has reportedly been arrested.

According to a press release from the United States Marshals, the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested 31-year-old Brandon Kennedy Tuesday.

Kennedy was wanted by the Youngstown Police Department for aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault stemming from a crash on Nov. 17, 2023.

According to the release, Kennedy was driving at a high speed in a Youngstown neighborhood when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Juanita and Alameda Avenues. That is when he hit another car as it passed through the intersection.

A 12-year-old boy, who was a passenger in Kennedy’s car, died as a result of the crash.

According to the release, the Youngstown PD issued a warrant for Kennedy’s arrest Monday. He was arrested in the 20 block of Broadview Avenue in Girard.

“Tragically, a 12-year-old was an innocent victim in this horrific incident,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in the release. “The first step in the pursuit of justice for that child occurred today when our task force took this fugitive into custody.”
