    Escaped inmate taken into custody in Portage County

    PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) — Authorities tracked down an inmate Wednesday morning after he escaped from a work program in Portage County .

    According to a post from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, the inmate, described as a low level offender, escaped from the Inmate Work Program. According to the sheriff’s website , the Inmate Work Program uses inmates for things like cleaning projects and working at non-profit organizations.

    Later, the sheriff’s office posted that the inmate had been located and taken into custody without incident.

    According to the post, schools in the area of Industrial Parkway near the eCheck/ODOT building off of St. Rt. 44 were placed in lockdown as authorities searched for the inmate.

    Out of an abundance of caution, the sheriff’s office also urged local residents and businesses to lock their doors and use good judgement.
