Twinsburg student to be charged after social media post caused ‘great concern’

TWINSBURG , Ohio (WJW) — A Twinsburg middle schooler is expected to be charged after a social media post caused the district “great concern” on Wednesday.

The 14-year-old student who allegedly published the post attends R.B. Chamberlin Middle School , according to a letter sent to parents on Wednesday from Twinsburg City School District Superintendent Kathi Powers.

A student discovered the post, which had been published to Snapchat and Instagram, and informed a school administrator, Powers told FOX 8 News. The district did not receive the threat directly, she said.

City police worked alongside school resource officers and Solon police officers to identify the student, according to the letter. The student is also expected to face punishment from the school district.

“This incident is extremely disappointing and very frustrating,” she wrote. “It caused great concern today both within our school district and throughout several communities. It caused unnecessary worry for our students, our staff members and our parents.”

Powers urged parents whose students have become anxious because of the day’s events to contact their school’s principal to be connected to counselors.

“I also respectfully request our parents to spend some time this evening discussing this incident with your child and the reasons why social media should never be used to threaten or draw unnecessary concern,” Powers wrote.

After-school activities were expected to proceed as scheduled on Wednesday, according to the letter.
