PARMA, Ohio (WJW) – Ceremonies were held all across Northeast Ohio to mark 23 years since the September 11th attacks.

Wednesday, the Parma Fire and Police Honor Guard paid tribute to the heroes of 9/11.

“On the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th attacks that happened, we promise to never forget. We will never forget the 343 firefighters that died that day,” said Parma assistant fire chief David Higginbotham.

Aiden Clark’s father said he doesn’t want his son’s death to be used for political gain

A special service was held in front of the 9/11 Memorial Site at the Shoppes of Parma.

“It’s a beam, part of the World Trade Center, tower number 2,” said Higginbotham.

Families gather at WTC to honor 9/11 victims, 23 years later

The service was attended by dozens of first responders, veterans and the community.

“For me personally, my son was born a month before it happened, and now he is in the fire department and it’s a personal effect from that,” said Higginbotham.

The Parma Fire Department has held a tribute here every year since the memorial came to the Shoppes at Parma.
