University in Springfield cancels events after email ‘threatened potential shooting’

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WJW) — Another school in Springfield is dealing with threats this week, with a new investigation underway.

Wittenberg University announced the cancelation of all events and activities Sunday, Sept. 15, after an email “threatened a potential shooting,” campus police said in a statement. The threats reportedly targeted Haitians.

Those who may see anything suspicious are asked to reach out to Wittenberg Police Division directly. Their emergency line is 937-327-6363.

“We take this threat seriously and will provide updates to the campus as we learn more about the situation,” the school said in a statement.

This comes as multiple hospitals received bomb threats in the area, leading to a lockdown situation Saturday.

Springfield Police Division previously took to social media this week to let everyone know they are taking safety seriously.

“We recognize that the past few days have been particularly challenging for everyone in our community. Please know that we remain fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of each and every person,” they said in a statement. “We take any and all threats to our community’s safety very seriously and continue to work diligently to address them.”
