‘Very, very shocking’: Woman allegedly strangles cat at apartment building, arrested

VANCOUVER, Wash. (WJW) — A woman was arrested last week following an animal endangerment incident at a Washington state apartment building, police said in a statement.

The Vancouver Police Department said they were at the building for another call when they were alerted that a woman visiting a tenant had been “seen in the lobby strangling a cat.”

“It was very, very shocking,” one unnamed witness told local TV station KPTV . “I didn’t wake up expecting to witness that. Regardless of where you find yourself, if you see any type of animal abuse, you should report it.”

In a police report obtained by the TV station , bystanders said the woman was seen holding and shaking the cat by the neck. She reportedly told police the feline was her support animal.

VPD were able to locate the cat, named Apollo, who they said was deemed OK. The woman was arrested on an animal cruelty charge. Apollo was taken to a nearby humane society, police said.
