No crying in baseball? Stephen Vogt chokes up over Guardians: ‘I love these guys’

CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Cleveland Guardians did not lose Monday night, coming from behind to beat the Minnesota Twins 4-3 with the help of a 2-run Kyle Manzardo homer in the 8th inning.

Following the game, first-year manager Stephen Vogt got a little emotional talking about his players, explaining they all support one another and are simply focused on winning as a team.

He said one of his favorite moments of the game came when Josh Naylor waited for Manzardo at home plate following the big home run.

“I love these guys,” Vogt told reporters, fighting back tears. “They’re so much fun to watch. They love each other. They work hard. That was an emotional night. And to see two teammates come together like that? That’s powerful.”

The Cleveland Guardians, who have been at the top of the AL Central all year, now have a five-game lead, despite serious pressure from the Twins and Kansas City Royals at various points in the season. In the American League, only the New York Yankees currently have a better record than them.

The Guards’ final game of the regular season is Sunday, Sept. 29.
