Cleveland city worker carjacked while on the job: I-Team

CLEVELAND (WJW) – The FOX 8 I-Team has learned of a Cleveland city worker carjacked at gunpoint while on the job.

This marks the second city of Cleveland employee in recent weeks held up at gunpoint while working.

In the latest case, an employee with building and housing found herself carjacked. It happened Tuesday, shortly before noon in the 3600 block of East 144th Street.

The worker told police she took her own car to do an inspection. She said she pulled into a driveway and an SUV pulled up and blocked her.

She also said someone jumped out with a gun and ordered her to walk away. The robbers then took her car.

Last month, another worker reported getting held up at gunpoint outside a city office. That happened in the Ohio City neighborhood.

This week, Mayor Justin Bibb held a news conference saying the amount of crime in Cleveland is dropping. He didn’t mention either of these robberies of city workers.

“We have a lot more work to do,” he said. “Not only to really address violent crime to get the numbers down even more. But, to address the perception of safety in our city.”

In the case last month, police did make an arrest.

They did not immediately make an arrest in the latest case. A report shows officers tried to track the car by checking cameras in the area.
