‘Not over’: Netflix’s ‘Unsolved Mysteries’ bringing local murder case to national spotlight

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (WJW) — A Netflix show is bringing a five-year-old Northeast Ohio cold case to the national spotlight.

When “Unsolved Mysteries: Volume 5” hits next month, viewers are going to learn about the murders of Carnell Sledge and Kate Brown, which took place in the Cleveland Metroparks’ Rocky River Reservation in broad daylight back in 2019.

In the trailer , scenes of the park are depicted, with voice overs from people who knew them saying: “Why Nell, why Kate?” and “someone knows what happened, it’s not over.”

In June, the FOX 8 I-Team spoke with Cleveland Metroparks Police Chief Kelly Stillman about the investigation. At the time, he said the police were looking at ways to bring the case to a wider audience’s attention but was not clear what that would look like.

“We feel by going to a larger population that maybe somebody was there on June 4, 2019, and maybe somewhere, someone may see it and that may be the break we need. To this day, we haven’t given up and we will not give up,” Stillman told the I-Team.

The new Netflix season begins Oct. 2, but it’s not clear if all episodes are dropping at once.

The FBI is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for anyone who has pertinent information in the case. More reward money is available from other sources as well.
