Help coming from all over US following ‘devastating’ NE Ohio dairy farm fire

DORSET TOWNSHIP , Ohio (WJW) — One day after a breathtaking effort to move more than a thousand dairy cattle from the Comp Family Dairy Farm , offers of help continue to come in from as far away as Georgia.

A devastating fire late Sunday destroyed the farm’s miliking parlor and heavily damaged other buildings on the property.

Almost immediately offers to help move the cattle to other farms came from across Ohio into Pennsylvania as well as from Indiana and Michigan.

“Its overwhelming, like the chills and the tears that come to my eyes for the outreach of all of these people that are willing to help out these people,” said Cassandra Rogers.

Rogers, owner of Thee Sassy Shack Boutique in Orwell worked with the family to create T-shirts with a Comp Dairy Farm Logo.

Knowing there were other offers to help create and sell T-shirts as a fundraiser for the farm she reached out, as someone they know, to offer her help.

In less than 24 hours she believed she had more than 250 orders.

“Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, all over Ohio, tons that we have to ship out. Last I checked this morning there was almost $16,000 in gross sales,” said Rogers, noting that 100% of the profits from each shirt will be going to the Comp family.

“There’s all the employees that are not milking now because they dont have the money coming in, so that’s why I did this, to help them on the other side of insurance,” said Rogers.

“The facilities are gone and so insurance covers that, but there’s a lot of revenue, these girls make milk every day, trucks come here twice a day, so the revenue is gone from these cows,” said Mandy Orahood of the Ashtabula County Farm Bureau.

Aware that there were numerous efforts to try and help them, Orahood on Tuesday was working with family members to set up a local bank account to which people could safely contribute.

Eventually, the farm will start hauling feed to the farms where their cattle are being housed, and there are other needs.

The Comp family was also aware that a neighbor started a GoFundMe page to help. One which they were vetting.

But there were other pages established without their consent.

“We’ve already got a request from Pakistan to start a GoFundMe so we already know, it’s hard to trust right, it’s hard to trust in today’s world,” said Orahood. “We are going to be starting a Comp Family Farm relief page on Facebook so and that is going to be coordinated.”

Should have add water sprinkler In every barns, buildings no matter what. See what happen to other barn killed least 100 horses. Whoever responsible to investigate every barn and check water sprinklers. This person should be terminated because this person is only focus on human people use buildings. Not animals. That mean that person who involved inspections all buildings that this person had no compassions for any barns that does not need water sprinklers. Time to add water sprinklers. Hire better inspectors to remind themselves to check every buildings. Animals and humans buildings safety.Terminate every old inspectors
