WATCH: Getaway driver abandons partner

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (WJW) — A getaway driver failed to fulfill his role during a botched theft on Monday.

Police in California shared surveillance video from the failed theft on September 23.

The video shows a suspect fleeing the store with a trash bag overflowing with stolen clothing.

As he raced toward the getaway vehicle, the driver sped away, abandoning his partner just moments before the officers arrived.

The suspect, who was apprehended at the scene, faces charges of grand theft, organized retail theft, and conspiracy. Despite the driver’s escape, authorities successfully recovered all stolen merchandise, valued at just under $2,000.
