11-year-old arrested for Kent school shooting threat

KENT, Ohio (WJW) – The Kent Police Department says an 11-year-old is in custody for making threats of a school shooting.

Stanton Middle School is closed on Friday out of an abundance of caution.

According to police, the 11-year-old made the threat via a text message to another student.

The other student notified the police.

Officers interviewed the suspect and his parents.

The child was arrested around 2 a.m. Friday and charged with making terroristic threats.

Police say the suspect is in the Portage Juvenile Detention Center.

We can speculate about the causes until the cows come home. Bullying? Bad situation at home? Psychopath? That list is endless.There is always more to it than speculation. The big takeaway here is, "See something...Say something." The reporting child took exactly the correct action by reporting it, and may have saved many. Parents, focus on what you can do - educate your children, not speculation. "See something...Say something."
