Billion dollar Mega Millions winning ticket remains unclaimed in New Jersey

TRENTON, N.J. (WJW) — Perhaps the winner is taking time to get their finances in order. Smart. Or perhaps the winning ticket is long gone, disintegrated after a run through the washing machine. Yikes.

Whatever the case is, a Mega Millions lottery ticket worth $1.13 billion remains unclaimed in New Jersey.

According to a press release on the Mega Millions website, the winning ticket was sold 6 months ago at a liquor store in Monmouth County, but a winner has yet to claim their prize.

And the clock is ticking.

Winners have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their winnings. That means this lucky someone has 6 months left. The cash value of the ticket is an estimated $537.5 million, according to the New Jersey Lottery. The winning numbers for the drawing were: 07, 11, 22, 29 and 38. The Gold Mega Ball number was 04. The Multiplier number was 02.

“While it is not unusual for winners of large jackpots to take their time to file a claim, we do urge all players to check their tickets,” the press release said.

A 2020 New Jersey law allows winners to remain indefinitely anonymous, and the identity of winners will not be included in materials available to public inspection under the State’s Open Public Records Act.
