New safety measures at Shaker Heights football game

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) – Following multiple security incidents at Shaker Heights schools, new safety measures will be in place for Friday night’s game against Brunswick.

Metal detectors will be at entrances to screen all spectators, according to a press release.

“The District is testing these devices as part of our ongoing efforts to evaluate and implement effective solutions to address safety and security concerns,” the press release from the district states.

The district has been reviewing security measures this month.

An armed Shaker student was taken into custody before the football game against Euclid on Sept. 13.

The district also implemented bag searches and metal detectors at Shaker Heights High School .

Here are other tips for Friday’s game:

• Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
• Presale tickets are available online at www.shakerraiders.org . By purchasing tickets via the presale, spectators may save time at the gate.
• Spectators will not be admitted after halftime.
• All Shaker Heights High School and Middle School students must present their student ID with a valid game ticket for entry. Students without a valid Shaker Heights Schools student ID will not be admitted. Only students from Shaker Heights and that game’s opposing school will be admitted to varsity football games.
• All Middle School and elementary school students must be accompanied by a paying adult.
• Spectators may not bring backpacks into the stadium.
• The High School building will be closed.
