CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) – A 16-year-old is facing misdemeanor charges after bringing a fake gun to a football game in Chester Township Friday night.

During a West Geauga High School football game, a 16-year-old boy was taken into custody after brandishing a fake firearm.

Officers at the scene verified that the weapon was not real, and no danger was posed to the public, according to Chester Township Police Chief Craig Young.

The 16-year-old was charged with illegal conveyance or possession of a deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance or of an object indistinguishable from a firearm in a school safety zone, inducing panic and aggravated menacing, according to Chief Young.

“The juvenile suspect is not a West Geauga student nor a resident of Chester Township,” a statement from Chief Young said. “As always, the safety of our community remains our top priority.”

After the teenager was arrested, West Geauga High School Principal Ryan Patti and Superintendent Rich Markwardt released a statement to its community.

“We are writing to inform you of a serious incident that occurred at tonight’s home football game. A student from another school district was apprehended in possession of what appeared to be a firearm. Upon investigation, it was determined to be a replica or “look-alike” gun,” the statement said.

The statement went on to assure parents and students that no one was harmed at the football game and that the teenager in question is in custody.

“The safety and security of our students, staff, and community members remain our top priority,” the statement said. “This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of our safety protocols and the need for continued vigilance. We encourage everyone in our community to report any suspicious activities or concerns to school officials or law enforcement immediately.”

This incident is currently under investigation.

They should put him in jail for about a year. He knew exactly what he was doing . A little slap on the wrist isn't going to do any good.
