Woman injured in drive-by shooting in local neighborhood

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – Police say they have a suspect in custody in connection to a drive-by shooting Monday in Akron .

Officers from the Akron Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at Rosalind Court around 6 p.m. and found the victim, a 24-year-old woman, with a gunshot wound.

She was transported to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Izaiah Dudley, 21, allegedly fired several shots from a vehicle that fled the scene after the incident. Officers later located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s car and conducted a stop. Dudley was found in the front passenger seat and was discovered to be in possession of a stolen firearm, according to a press release from police.

Dudley has been charged with felonious assault and receiving stolen property. Law enforcement recovered numerous shell casings and additional evidence at the initial scene, as well as two handguns from the stopped vehicle.

The identity of the victim is being withheld as investigators continue their inquiries. Preliminary investigations suggest an altercation involving multiple individuals occurred before the shooting.
