BARNARDSVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — The small town of Barnardsville, just an hour outside of Asheville, has been hit hard.

Left without main roads, many in the town have been stuck in their homes without any supplies.

We visited the site where a trailer home once stood. Now, it rests 50 yards away, completely destroyed.

Barnardsville resident Douglas English said he grew up across the street.

“I lived down probably two or three miles below here,” English said. “I seen my dad walking down my road, up to his waist, and he said all he got was his pants and shirt and his shoes, and that’s all he could get. He said he just watched the rest of it go down the water.”

English said both of his parents are safe but they lost everything in their home, along with all of their cars, to a flash flood. All they have left are the clothes on their backs.

We found this town while traveling with The Salvation Army.

“The Salvation Army has been here serving warm meals to this community, this very small town, and for many, that has been a miracle, because there have been so many broken roads in this community,” said FOX8 reporter Gretchen Stenger.

Crews have been working to rebuild roads so that teams, like The Salvation Army, can bring supplies through. And it’s thanks to donations from viewers like you that The Salvation is able to acquire the supplies that those affected by the storm need most.

    How you can help

The Salvation Army is collecting donations to provide “emergency aid, food, drinks, emotional and spiritual care, and long-term recovery services to survivors and rescue workers” in western North Carolina.
