Armed suspect has life-threatening injuries after being shot by officer in North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — An officer-involved shooting investigation is underway in northeast Charlotte near Interstate 85, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

Thursday evening, officers were patrolling a “high-crime area” in the 1300 block of West Sugar Creek Road when they spotted a known convicted felon. Officers say they confronted the “violent felon” after they saw him with a gun.

A brief struggle began, and one of the officers fired his weapon, hitting the suspect, after believing an imminent deadly threat, according to authorities. The suspect was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. None of the officers were hurt.

Police say the suspect was found with two guns, both of which were seized at the scene. The man is said to have “an extensive violent criminal history including attempted murder and murder.”

The State Bureau of Investigations will investigate the incident, and the officer who fired his weapon will be on paid administrative leave pending on the investigation. CMPD will run an internal investigation.
