Playpens recalled for entrapment risk

(WJW) – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of playpens, due to an entrapment risk.

More than 6,000 Gimars playpens were sold on Amazon.

According to the safety notice from CPSC, the playpens violate federal safety regulations.

The playpens come with a basketball hoop accessory that can be a head entrapment hazard.

Additionally, CPSC reports children can become entrapped beneath the mattress, posing a suffocation hazard.

The playpens were sold from May 2023 to January 2024 for about $80.

Here’s what to look for:

• Gimars Playpens
• Model numbers GWL-01, GWL-02, GWL-03, GWL-04, GWL-05 and GWL-06

The playpens are labeled with the product name “Gimars Playpen with mat” on a label attached to the top rail. “Gimars” is also printed in white on one side of the top rail. The playpens are dark gray, black and light gray fabric with white mesh sides. The mattress is reversible with printed road and animal designs. The playpens come with a basketball hoop that attaches to the top rail and multicolored balls.

Anyone with the playpen is urged to stop using it immediately. Consumers are urged to disassemble the playpen and cut the fabric floor, mattress pad and basketball hoop accessories, and email photos to Gimars-Aftersales@outlook.com for a refund.

Amazon and Shezhen Jingdu Technology are expected to contact all purchasers directly.
