Northern lights bring show to Northeast Ohio

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Did you go outside and look up? The northern lights were once again visible over Northeast Ohio Thursday night and early Friday morning.

The phenomenon, also called an aurora, occurs when charged particles from the sun collide with our atmosphere.

According to FOX 8 meteorologists, the best time to view the lights was likely between 10 p.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday.

Plenty of FOX 8 viewers captured the hues of purple, pink, and green in the clear night sky as well.

More than 100 people gathered at Edgewater to witness what Space.com says is regarded as the “Holy Grail of skywatching.”

To catch a glimpse of the aurora in Northeast Ohio, you would have most likely needed to look low on the horizon. It’s best to use a camera with a long exposure, experts say.

Northeast Ohio has been spoiled with beautiful viewings of the aurora quite a lot lately, most prominently back in May.
